Multiple uses of baking soda in personal hygiene
Although we often associate baking soda with kitchen preparations, this common ingredient has multiple benefits from a cosmetic point of view and, when used properly, can have visible effects on your beauty.
We want to help you with some ideas on how to use this miraculous ingredient in your hygiene and care routine.
- Natural body scrub
You can easily use baking soda to make your own body scrub. Make an emulsion from a baking soda sachet and water, which you apply all over your body. Then massage in a circular motion to exfoliate the skin. At the end, rinse with plenty of warm (but not hot) water. You can use this type of scrub daily or whenever you feel the need.
You can apply the emulsion even in the armpit area or on the toes, but without massaging, whereas the properties of baking soda are well known to eliminate unpleasant odors.
- Hair care
Before washing your hair, mix an enough amount of shampoo with a teaspoon of baking soda, and on wet hair, massage the scalp well with the obtained emulsion. Then take a comb and spread the solution over the entire surface of the hair. After 15 minutes, rinse your hair well. This will remove all impurities from your hair and keep your scalp balanced. Repeat the procedure for about a month.
But be careful! If you have fragile hair, do not allow the baking soda to act for more than 3-5 minutes and do not repeat the procedure earlier than 3 months, as the alkaline properties of the ingredient may damage your hair.
- Treating facial problems
Among the best known benefits of using baking soda for the skin are: preventing the appearance of blackheads and acne, cleansing the skin of impurities, soothing irritations, removing unsightly blemishes, etc.
The easiest way to keep your skin away from such problems is to wash your face with water in which you have added a baking soda powder. If you feel that your skin is dry, take a break for a few days between applications.
Occasionally, you can also use masks based on baking soda. The base is always the same: a teaspoon of baking soda mixed with a little water (until you get a paste). Depending on the problems you are facing, you can add: half lemon juice (to remove unsightly spots), honey (to soothe irritations), mineral water (instead of flat, to remove blackheads).

- Teeth whitening
You have probably already noticed that you can also find toothpaste with the addition of baking soda on the market, but most of the time the amount used is not enough to see the effects in a short time.
You can apply baking soda powder over your toothpaste and brush your teeth with this combination. 2-3 times a week you can mix a teaspoon of baking soda with water and use it as a substitute for your toothpaste. The procedure has a role in: teeth whitening, removing unsightly stains from coffee or tobacco, fresh breath.
If you smoke, for visible effects in removing stains and teeth whitening, we recommend that you brush your teeth 2-3 times a week with baking soda over which you have added lemon juice.
- Benefits for nails
If you have yellow nails due to smoking or excessive application of nail polish or other manicure products, you can prepare a paste of 4 teaspoons of baking soda and water which you then apply over the nails. You can also use this solution for stained nails. If you repeat the procedure for a few days in a row, you will see that the results will not stop appearing.
- Heel care
Mix one sachet (100 grams) with 5 liters of warm water and soak your feet for about 15-20 minutes. After the time has elapsed, exfoliate your heels with a pile of feet or a pumice stone, then apply a strong moisturizer. You will be amazed at the result if, after applying the cream, you choose to sleep overnight with a pair of standing socks.
