Multi-skilled baking soda

The most useful household uses of baking soda

Baking soda is considered a wonder ingredient that should not be missing from your home. Most of the time we associate this compound with kitchen preparations, cosmetics or pharmaceuticals.

But beyond these uses, baking soda is an environmentally friendly product available to anyone, cheap and should not be missing from any home. Here are its main uses in the home:

1. Removes unpleasant odors

Baking soda has a variety of roles in the deodorization process. Get rid of the unpleasant smell from the refrigerator by constantly having an open container (cup, glass) with 3-4 teaspoons of baking soda powder. Sprinkle baking soda on the bottom of the trash can, which you change regularly. To eliminate the unpleasant smell of sewage, turn on the hot water and pour a sachet of baking soda on the pipe. Moreover, to refresh the carpet, sprinkle baking soda powder all over its surface and leave it to act until the morning when you will vacuum the entire surface. You can do the same with the interior of your car. If you want to get rid of the bad smell from your favorite shoes, sprinkle baking soda inside your shoes or sneakers and let it work for as long as possible.

2. It has an odorizing role

If you want a room, car or dressing air freshener, mix in equal amounts baking soda and bath salt with your favorite flavor, put the product in a bag and hang it in the right place.

3. Cleans and disinfects sanitary ware in the bathroom

To clean stains from the bathroom (from tiles, faucets, sinks, bathtubs, showers) form an abrasive paste of baking soda and water and spread it on the affected surfaces. Leave the product to act for a while and rinse with a clean sponge. The result will be amazing. You can also use the same paste to clean and polish the batteries. For the natural cleaning and disinfection of the toilet bowl, use the same composition that you let it act overnight. In the morning, flush repeatedly.

4. Remove stains from kitchen utensils

Form an emulsion of baking soda, water and lemon and apply it with a damp sponge on the objects you want to clean. Leave it on for 20-25 minutes and you will be pleasantly surprised by the efficiency of the product in cleaning and polishing pans, saucepans, chopping boards, etc.

5. It is effective in rinsing or bleaching laundry

Why spend unnecessary money on special detergents for white laundry, which are not only not always effective but also contribute to environmental pollution? You have an effective, safe and nature-friendly remedy at hand. Add 150 grams of baking soda over the detergent you normally use and start the washing program. You will find the result incredible!

If you choose to use it in the rinsing process, add half a cup of baking soda towards the end of the washing machine wash in the detergent tub and you will be amazed by the fresh smell of your laundry.

6. Clean oral devices (toothbrush, braces, dentures, storage containers)

Add a tablespoon of baking soda to a cup of water or storage containers, insert the devices, and allow the solution to act overnight. Rinse objects well in the morning and enjoy quality dental hygiene.

7. Restore the luster of silverware or cutlery

Whether you use silverware or stainless steel cutlery for tableware, you can restore the gloss at any time by forming or pasting 3 parts baking soda and one part water. Rub the objects with a soft cloth or towel and rinse well. Another option would be to boil the cutlery for 5-10 minutes (depending on the degree of wear) in the water in which you added two tablespoons of baking soda. The result will definitely be one to match.

8. Clean the hob, gas, electric or microwave oven

For the ovens, use a damp sponge with which you will spread a paste of baking soda and water over the entire surface. Leave on enough (10-20 minutes for the microwave and even overnight for the gas or electric oven) and then rub well. Wipe off dirt with a sponge and rinse thoroughly with a clean cloth. In the case of the hob, after you have spread the pasta prepared by you, sprinkle with a little 9 degree vinegar and leave it to act for 30 minutes. After rinsing, you will definitely notice that you have achieved the desired result.

9. Removes oil or grease stains

If you accidentally stained your favorite blouse, wet it with a little water and add baking soda powder. After 10-15 minutes, rinse and if the stain persists, repeat the procedure rubbing the material a little in the affected area. You will be surprised by the result.

10. Remove residues from vegetables and fruits

Sprinkle a little baking soda on a damp sponge and rub the vegetables and fruits well with it, then place the food under running water. To remove pesticides from them, place the food in a large bowl, add a teaspoonful of baking soda and pour water over them. After a minute, rinse them and they can be eaten safely.

11. Unclog the pipes

Avoid using chemical and environmentally friendly solutions to unclog / prevent clogging of sewer pipes by adding a cup of baking soda over which you pour ½ a liter of boiling water together with a cup of vinegar. Leave it to act for an hour, after which the cold water starts for 5-10 minutes.

12. Prevents house fires

Bicarbonate is the main chemical compound used in fire extinguishers. Keep a container close to the stove or other sources of fire in the home (scented candles). In the event of a small fire, turn off the power supply and discard the baking soda at the base of the flame.

13. Disinfect mattresses

We recommend that you sprinkle enough baking soda over the mattress from time to time (from which you have previously removed the bedding). Leave it on for 30 minutes and then vacuum the mattress well. Not only do you ensure its natural disinfection, but you also prevent the development of mites as well as the appearance of dermatitis or skin irritations.

14. Keep away unwanted insects

If you want to get rid of bugs, ants or other insects or simply want to prevent them from appearing in the comfort of your home, sprinkle small amounts of baking soda around the corners of the rooms. When vacuuming the room, make sure you change it to a different amount. But be careful if you have a pet or a baby that could accidentally swallow the substance.

15. It is useful for pets care

To remove the unpleasant odor from the cat’s litter, sprinkle baking soda on its bottom and cover with sand. You will repeat the process every time you change the sand. You can also disinfect pet accessories by rinsing them with water in which you have added a little baking soda.

16. Restores the shine of jewelry

Make your jewelry look like new by using this wonderful ingredient. Put the blackened jewelry in a bowl, sprinkle a sufficient amount of baking soda over it and pour boiling water. You will immediately see how your favorite accessories regain their former shine. After a maximum of two minutes, remove the objects from the water and wipe them quickly with a dry cotton towel.
