Heaven meets Earth

About the benefits of hot springs

Baths with thermal water from the depths of the earth have a long tradition of over 2000 years in Asia, and have been known ever since for their benefits in treating certain ailments.

In Romania there are over 7000 such springs that contain in pure and unpolluted water by bacteria substances such as: calcium, chlorides, iron, magnesium, potassium, bromine, zinc, sulfur, manganese, selenium, copper.

So, the first beneficiary of the qualities of these waters is your skin. In addition to the moisturizing effect, they have an anti-allergic effect, exfoliation, revitalization, etc.

It is good to know that balneology, a branch of medicine that studies the properties and healing power of thermal water, has established a multitude of therapeutic roles of these sources. In addition to wellness and recreation, thermal baths are used for:

  • Treatment of rheumatic problems. Here we are talking about rheumatism, rheumatoid arthritis, various diseases or injuries of the upper or lower limbs, osteoporosis, etc .;
  • Strengthening the respiratory system by inhaling hot air from the surface of the water;
  • Improving the peripheral circulation, by activating the blood by the free carbon gas emitted by the springs;
  • Treatment of cardiovascular problems;
  • Healing dermatological conditions, such as: psoriasis, acne, rashes;
  • Strengthening the immune system;
  • Improving depression, anxiety, reducing stress levels;
  • Treatment of digestive problems.

But be careful! There are specific medical guidelines for treating each condition. For a few relaxing days you can enjoy the benefits of these over-the-counter baths, but for a complete cure you will need to follow the specialist’s instructions closely.

And as Romania provides about a third of the thermal pool in Europe, the list of resorts is also long. You can choose to follow a treatment or at least relax in a specialized SPA in: Băile Herculane, Govora, Felix, Tușnad, Olănești, Călimănești-Căciulata, Borsec, Covasna, Balvanyos, Slănic Moldova, Sângiorz Băi, Vatra Dornei, Sărata Monteoru, Sovata, Techirghiol, Moneasa, Pucioasa, Amara, Salt Lake, Techirghiol etc.

Depending on the ailments you want to treat, thermal water can be used in various ways even at home:

  • Thermal water is a real miracle for treating skin problems. Sprayed directly on the face, previously cleaned of traces of make-up, the thermal water gives elasticity to the skin and prevents aging. Not to mention the fact that it can be used directly in the make-up removal process, thus contributing to skin tone and soothing irritations.
  • It can also be used after shaving or epilation, after sunbathing or sun exposure, as well as to treat insect bites or dermatitis.
