About hair tools. How to maintain them and when to change them.
Maintaining the hygiene of the hair tools is an absolutely necessary procedure both in the profile salons and in your personal care kit. Beyond the bacteria that accumulates in these objects, by cleaning or changing them regularly, you make sure that you give your hair the proper care to look healthy and beautiful.
1. Brush or comb
By brushing or combing your hair, these tools accumulate sebum, dead skin flakes, dust and bacteria. If your brush or comb is made of plastic, they are very easy to maintain. Immerse them in the bathroom sink or in a container containing hot (not boiling) water, over which you add a small amount of shampoo to form a foam. Add a teaspoon of baking soda to the water, which will help to effectively remove the sebum. Leave the objects in the water for about 30 minutes, then rub them well with an old toothbrush. After rinsing them under running water, wipe them and they are ready to use.
If your products are made of wood, immersion in hot water is excluded. Use an alcohol swab (sanitary alcohol) and clean only the brushes of objects. You can also opt for a quick wash under running water at room temperature, but you risk that the wood will “swell” or crack after drying.
Brushes containing natural threads are washed with water and shampoo, which is left to act for 15 minutes, then rinsed under running water.
Our recommendation is to clean your brush or comb every 2-3 weeks.

2. Hair straightener or curler
For these hairstyling items, it is useful to preheat them to the lowest temperature. After they have warmed up, unplug them. Soak a cotton swab in warm water and sanitary alcohol and rub the plate or curler on the entire heated surface. Do not rub too hard, as this may damage them.
Depending on how often you use them, repeat the procedure no later than one month. If you use a thermal protection spray as recommended, repeat the procedure weekly or every 2 weeks to extend the life of your hairstyling items.
3. Rotating air brush
This type of brush pulls out a lot of hair, which means that after each use you have to clean the strands that remain hanging on it. Related to maintenance and sanitation, periodically disassemble its rotating end and wash it with shampoo under lukewarm water. You can also use an old toothbrush to remove debris as well as possible. Under a stream of cold water, rinse the used end well and then dab well with a towel. Allow it to dry vertically and it is ready for new use.
As for the lifespan of the hair straightener, curler or rotating brush, they should be changed when you notice that you have passed them through the hair strands several times and the effect is not the same as at the beginning. If the bulb that should be on to indicate the optimum temperature becomes flashing, it is clear that it can no longer maintain the temperature, risking burning your hair.
