About dairy – how beneficial these foods actually are for the body
Dairy products are extremely beneficial in children’s development, containing proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals essential in their development, growth and dentition.
However, there is much controversy about the daily consumption of dairy products at maturity, starting from the idea that a glass of milk or yogurt consumed daily for several years, increases by up to 17% the risk of breast cancer in women and that milk contains a protein essential for the metabolic health of the body.
The myth that dairy products are not so good for the body has its origins in Asian culture where, after the newborn exceeds the baby period, he is no longer fed milk.
In the hope that we will convince you to include dairy products in your daily diet, we have selected for you just a few of their benefits:
- Dairy products are the largest source of calcium for humans. Also, the presence of vitamin D in dairy products ensures optimal absorption of calcium and its fixation in the bones. It should be noted that in cheeses the amount of calcium is much higher than in fresh milk, as they are obtained from several liters of milk.
- Milk peptins reduce blood pressure, preventing the risk of a heart attack and / or stroke. Tryptophan, an amino acid naturally found in cheese, reduces stress levels and induces sleep. Hence the explanation that a glass of milk consumed before bed will ensure a quick and peaceful sleep.
- Milk proteins are of higher quality than meat proteins. We mention here casein, found in milk in a proportion of 80% of its total protein, efficient in the transfer of energy stored in adipose tissue to muscle. So, 3 or 4 servings of dairy a day will help you burn more calories.
- Dairy products are excellent sources of vitamins and minerals, such as retinol (vitamin A), folic acid and other water-soluble vitamins represented by the B complex: B2, B3, B6 and B12.
- Dairy lipids have the role of reducing the action of chemicals with carcinogenic potential in the body, especially skin, stomach or breast cancer.
- Let’s not forget the significant content of phosphorus, magnesium, sodium and iodine in dairy products, minerals that play a key role in the healthy development of our body.
But let’s not forget the milk fermentation process, which, when done properly, only makes the milk extend its shelf life on its own. However, if we do not store dairy products properly, we run the risk of developing gastrointestinal diseases. Here are some gastrotechnical rules for storing dairy products:
- They are always kept in the refrigerator and consumed within the time limit on the packaging after opening: 2-3 days for milk, between 3 and 7 days for cream cheese (depending on the amount of salt in the product) and up to one month for telemea.
- Butter is much more resistant, it can be stored even for a few months, but it will have to be kept in a plastic bag after opening.
