CopyCat

To be or not to be copycat?

In our case, the term copycat refers to those people who copy the style and / or behavior of another person. Sounds familiar to you, doesn’t it?

Even if the theory says that it is good to ignore such behaviors, let’s admit that it is still difficult not to be annoyed by a person who tends to become your faithful copy.

To try to understand why certain people in your entourage choose to imitate you in style and behavior, let’s establish the reasons why they resort to such practices.

1. Envy. Envious people will always try to imitate the successful ones. This can be explained by the fear of embarrassment or failure. If you are a popular person or you simply see the admiration of those around you and you have become the target of a copycat, find out that he studied you well before, deepened you and only then began to copy you.

2. Attraction. Copycat can choose to imitate you when it sees in you a social model to follow. This type of behavior has its origins in the childhood of each, when each of us looked for role models in parents, siblings, relatives. The problem is when people around us continue this type of behavior in adulthood.

3. Flattery. If you have won the admiration of friends, colleagues or other people around you, a copycat can choose to imitate you in order to increase the success rate in his own life.

How do you recognize a copycat?

The answer is simple: by imitating your style. A copycat can choose to imitate:

  • The way you dress or make up;
  • The way you style your hair;
  • The expressions you usually use;
  • Your ways of spending your free time;
  • Your opinions on a social topic;
  • The impressions you express about those around you;
  • Your gestures and facial expressions (how you answer the phone, how you drink water from the glass, the position on the chair, the grimaces);
  • Culinary preferences;
  • How you choose to spend your free time;
  • The kind of books you read;
  • The way you argue with those around you.

How do you deal with a copycat?

Although it may seem difficult, the most effective and handy solution would be to try to ignore it. Always think that the copycat you are dealing with has assimilated an accumulation of frustrations of his own failures.

Another option would be to try to talk openly with her about what is bothering you. In this way you will most likely manage to make the copycat aware that his actions are also visible to those around him.

If, however, you have not been able to make a change in his behavior, avoid talking to him about your future plans, future professional projects, what you want to buy new in terms of clothing, or what you will wear to your next party that you participate together.
