Magia masajului

The benefits of lymphatic massage

I was recently at the opening of a massage center in Bucharest, where I had the opportunity to experience some types of massages that I had only heard about. Beyond the classic relaxation massage, the anti-cellulite or bamboo massage, I found out interesting things that I set out to share with you about lymphatic massage therapy.

What is the lymphatic system?

The lymphatic system is the body’s second circulatory system and is one of the most important components of our immune system. Lymph (a colorless fluid of our body) has the role of destroying viruses, bacteria and infections in the body. The lymphatic system also acts as a transporter of proteins and nutrients in the body.

When to worry?

The main signals your body gives you when your lymphatic system is not functioning normally are:

  • The appearance or accentuation of cellulite in the area of the thighs and / or buttocks;
  • Apathy or lack of zest for life;
  • Sleeping disorders;
  • Frequent colds;
  • Feeling tired legs and edema of the limbs;
  • Disorders of blood circulation and the appearance of broken blood vessels.

What is massage or lymphatic drainage?

The lymphatic drainage procedure involves massaging the abdomen, hands and feet. The massage is performed by light movements, the therapist pressing lightly on the lymph nodes.

The procedure is painless, relaxing and without side effects.

Why it is recommended to do lymphatic massage?

First of all, the massage or lymphatic drainage ensures a general cleansing of your body and, starting from here, the benefits are chained:

  • Provides general cleansing of the body, so adjuvant in diets or detox diets;
  • Eliminates fluid retention, so you’ll get rid of swollen hands or feet;
  • Fights bloating and improves digestion;
  • The aesthetic effects will not be long in coming: the reduction / elimination of cellulite, the reduction of the waist circumference, the disappearance of the broken blood vessels, the enrichment of the skin and the increase of its elasticity;
  • Strengthens the immune system;
  • You will feel a regeneration of the whole body.

How often it is recommended to use this type of massage?

It is recommended that a treatment with this type of massage be held for two months, during which time the frequency of the sessions should be twice a week.

From the third month onwards, only one session per week is sufficient.

Contraindications

Lymphatic massage is not recommended:

  • Patients with cancer;
  • Pregnant or lactating women;
  • People suffering from cardiovascular or lymphatic diseases
